SCR-Silencer-Combination (KeSS)
The “KeSS” research project (Compact and Efficient Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment for minimizing Nitrogen Oxides and Noise Emissions) aims at developing a compact exhaust system. Till date, separate systems have been used, which take up a lot of space and add weight. Neither of these separate systems is new in principle; silencers in particular have been built and used since the introduction of internal combustion engines. Exhaust gas aftertreatment systems based on SCR technology have also been widely used.
As a result of the project, the silencer and SCR catalytic converter components can now be combined into a single unit, thus eliminating essential interface components and creating a very compact unit.
Compared to conventional systems, Nießing’s silencer-SCR unit is characterized by the following attributes:
