Plate resonators
Exhaust air or exhaust gases are strictly linked to the chimney height stipulated by law. The existing chimney length is ideal for the “inner duct ” as an industrial silencer. This attenuation system uses the interior draft of the chimney (or exhaust pipe) not in a circle, but – via smooth vibrating plates (plate resonators) – in an angular design or as baffle-shaped components.
The vibrating plates are insensitive to contamination and convert the sound energy into vibration energy. To absorb this vibration energy, special foams or mineral wool are placed between the statically supporting outer shell and the angular inner duct of the steel chimney.
The discharge of exhaust gases is restricted to a minimum discharge height specified by law. This is achieved with the Nießing chimney. To use the installation space for more than just the exhaust gas ducting, Nießing has developed the so-called “angular inner duct” in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute. This sound absorber changes the circular pipe into an acoustically effective polygon by means of flat, vibrating plates.
